Glitter is the new black. At least that is what we are saying.

We are super excited about a new run of paintings that have created. We are calling the collection, Cute and Deadly, they are small creatures made of glitter and they come in two poses, cute and deadly. Here is a sneak peak…. There are many more to come.

If you are interested in purchasing some of the range or have any suggestions for cute creatures hit the comments page.

As a community of kick ass cool people, Kake & Bear relish the chance to talk about other kick l_f4749fb3796a4c46bc2e581ea4db1b2cass cool people that we come across.

This week we discovered Kimbra, a New Zealand based singer has a voice like a funk soul sister that would make butter melt in Alaska.

Every now and then we need a little inspiration to get our creative groove on and we are giving Kimbra’s first single Settle Down, the K&B tick of approval.

If you want more info about Kimbra check out our friends at Nowlisten2this.com.

Peace Out.

Would you give me the shirt off your back?

T-Shirts are awesome. A great medium for messages, a great way to express yourself, to create your own style, it is all possible through T-Shirts.

I also love the community of T-Shirt creators, Threadless is a great example, enter your designs, rate other peoples work and just generally share great, clever and funny ideas. It’s a great way to promote your work and also have a lot of fun.

Another great T-Shirt source Zazzle, a bit more commercial but still really fun.

If you are not on the T-Shirt bandwagon then get your groove on and check it out!

K&B are in love with, hair, beautiful hair.

August 15, 2010

Ok so this might seem like a strange post for me, but when you have an obsession to begins to creep into every part of your life but particularly any blogs you look after. My current obsession is my hair, well more correctly braiding my hair.

Now this is not a new trend, in fact I think the Egyptians patented it, but I have just discovered the bewitching nature of braided styles and I am just about falling over myself with excitement.

I can’t stop braiding. I think the next step is to begin weaving things into the braid, ribbon, tinsel, spaghetti, who knows where it will end!

create avatar Just in case anyone out there is interested in learning to braid, here are a few videos I found really helpful:

Limited time left on the earth. How to fit everything in? Hire it!

A friend of mine recently said to me, “You know what Kake? We only have about 20,000 dinners until we die, (supposing we live to about 80 that is) so we should make every single one the best dinner we possibly can.”

As I am sure you can tell, my friend is a real foodie, someone who enjoys food with the same passion I have for… lets say, homewears.

But this interesting observation got me thinking, if there are only 20,000 dinners left, what else do I only have a limited amount of time for?

Does this mean I will only buy 200 more sets of high tread count sheets before I die? Or be able to travel to 50 countries? Or read only 5,000 books?

It is a strange and quite unsettling thought. If there are only so many opportunities to enjoy the things you love, we should waste no time and get enjoying them.

Seeing as I cannot afforded to buy 5,000 books, outfits, toys, DVDs etc, it seems the best option is to hire these items.

We have all heard about hiring designer handbags (thank you Sex and the City), but what else can we get our hands on?

Here are my top five websites for hiring the things that I love:

Shoes and Jewellery, http://www.pelleshoes.com.au/hire.php

Dress ups, http://www.cellardoor.net.au/

Handbags, http://www.fashionhire.co.uk/ (come on they HAD to be in the list somewhere!)

Books, http://www.ilovereading.com.au/index.html

Everything, http://www.hirethings.co.nz/ (these guys let you hire all sorts of stuff. To bad it is in New Zealand.)

Question for this week, what is your 20,000 dinners? Shoes? Cars? Food? Let us know by leaving a comment or joining un on Facebook or Twitter.

Almost everyone has seen or read Alice In Wonderland. As a child my favorite part of the story was when Alice, locked in the room of may doors, finds the bottle that says “Drink Me.”

Well now you can own a small part of the story thanks to Kit Paulson Glass:

This beautiful hand blown bottle is amazing and pocket size! Perfect for your own special little liquid or an excellent gift for a Wonderland lover, it is available for around $60.

Do you have a item that was inspired by your favorite book? Let us know, comment below.

Enjoy,

Kake

Creative Tunes – Are We Born or Made, SIA?

June 29, 2010

Creativity happens under many circumstances and sometimes all you need is an awesome album to get you into a creative groove. This week the Kake & Bear team have been playing UK based artist SIA’s new album We Are Born non-stop.

A wonderful collection of dance, funk, jazz, pop and who knows what else, We Are Born is an assault on the senses and I defy anyone to try listening to the commercially successful ‘Clap Your Hands’ without getting on your good foot and grooving.
